Summary

Assists the bus driver in supervising, loading, and unloading students. 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operates the bus and carry out duties on schedule and in a prompt and efficient manner.
  • Assists the bus driver in maintaining good student conduct on the bus.
  • Assists young or disabled students in getting on and off the bus. 
  • Assists in the pickup and delivery of students from/to parent, guardian, or authorized individual.
  • Assures that students get on and off the bus in an orderly fashion. 
  • Provides written records of violations of the student code to the transportation supervisor. 
  • Collects and turns over to the designated school personnel those personal items left on the bus by students. 
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Follows the chain of command when dealing with issues related to the Transportation Department. 

Required Knowledge & Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Safe practices concerning school bus transportation.
  • Basic record-keeping techniques.
  • Applicable sections of the KAR and other applicable laws.
  • Health and safety regulations. 

Ability to:

  • Maintain proper records and documentation. 
  • Assist student loading, unloading, and seating arrangements as required. 
  • Understand and relate to children with special needs. 
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. 
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 
  • Lift students according to established guidelines. 
  • Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures. 
  • Maintain routine records. 
  • Observe health and safety regulations.
  • Set a professional example at all times.

  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, and push or pull weights up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires a high level of physical endurance to meet the demands of extended workdays (coverage of building activities and extra-curricular activities, etc.).
  • Requires the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.

Education and/or Experiences

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate.

Licenses and Other Requirements

  • Meets the requirements for a criminal record check as specified by Kentucky State Law.  
  • Meets all state and local physical examination and health requirements.
  • Participates in and successfully completes training programs as specified by the Kentucky Department of Education and local district.
